The UT803 main chip is designed to automatically shut down in 10 minutes. 

The timer symbol appears when starting up, indicating that the automatic 

shutdown function is on. 

It is recommended that customers press the RS232 key to cancel the automatic

shutdown function when measuring for a long time and do not need to automatically

shut down. 

When overvoltage protection is generated, a warning symbol appears in the upper right corner of the instrument screen, blinks for three seconds and beeps.

In the effective frequency range, the measured value of the true RMS multimeter corresponds to the root mean square value measured by the oscilloscope; the measurement error of the oscilloscope is 3%, and the measurement accuracy of the general multimeter is higher.

Due to the influence of environmental factors, the measurement error is too large,

 you can try to use the "self-correction" function of the oscilloscope. 

In a circuit with resistance, inductance, and capacitance, 

the hindrance to the current in the circuit is called impedance and is represented by Z. 

1.The measured signal has the same bandwidth as the oscilloscope, and the distortion is large (error 41%). The relationship between the oscilloscope bandwidth ≥ five times the signal bandwidth is 5:1, and a signal with very small distortion can be obtained (the error is 2%).

2. Improper selection of the oscilloscope probe will also cause distortion of the waveform seen. First, the probe bandwidth should be greater than the signal bandwidth, preferably ≥ 5 times the signal bandwidth. Secondly, if the probe is divided into two gears, the 1X gear bandwidth is usually It is 6MHz-10MHz, and the 10X gear is the maximum bandwidth written in the probe specifications.

The quality factor Q of an inductor is a parameter that indicates how close the device is to pure reactance. The higher the quality factor, the higher the absolute value of the reactance

For capacitor, the item indicating purity is usually expressed by the dissipation factor D, D=1/Q. Therefore the smaller the D, the higher the capacitive reactance and the better the efficiency.

In order to reduce the non-linearity of the core material,  inductors are generally measured with a large internal resistance of 100 ohms to reduce the test signal level. In order to compare the data with other competitor testers, it must ensure that they have the same internal resistance mode. Other modes are  available as impedance options as long as this is consistent with the manufacturer's specified internal resistance test conditions.

The UTL8500X series support ripple waveform measurement and waveform display functions,  while the UTL8500 series  does not have such  functions.

Confirm the test requirements of the relevant safety standards before testing.

Recommended voltage for general non-standard withstand voltage test = 1000V + 2 times the operating voltage (test time 60 seconds). For example, a product that works on 220V, the recommended test voltage is at least 1440V.

The withstand voltage test or high voltage test (HIPOT test) is a test used to verify the quality and electrical safety characteristics of products (such as UL, CE, VDE, CSA, TUV and other standards required by international safety agencies required )

Insulated resistance test is to measure the resistance value between the conductor and the insulation layer. The greater the resistance value the better the insulation performance  Typically, the value of insulation impedance (IR) must not fall below a certain megohm (MΩ). The test is usually conducted with a DC voltage of 500V or 1000V and the results are measured in megohm resistance (MΩ).

The withstand voltage test is an insulation voltage test of insulation layer.  The withstand voltage value test value is determined by the actual used voltage level , but the added voltage is higher than that of the insulation impedance (IR) test. And depending on the different requirements, it can be performed at AC or DC voltage. The results are measured in milliamperes (mA) or microamperes (uA).

AC withstand voltage test can perform voltage test immediately and basically no discharge is required  after the test. DC withstand voltage test can measured products with capacitive loads.

User can install the setting as the following steps：

1、Set storage depth to maximum.

2、According to observing time to put timebase on the proper position. If user want to observe it for 1S, then set timebase to 100ms/Div, screen time is 100ms*14 grid=1.4s.

3、Select trigger mode as single trigger. When wave meets the trigger condition, wave will be captured and stably display on the screen.

Constant current output：When the current value set by the power supply is less than the current value consumed by the load, the power supply is operating in constant current mode. Ithe setting current value＜Ithe load consuming current value

Constant voltage： When the current value set by the power supply is greater than the current value consumed by the load, the power supply is operating in constant voltage mode. Ithe setting current value＞Ithe load consuming current value

Display resolution refers to the minimum voltage, current digits displayed on the screen.

Programming resolution refers to the minimum settable voltage and current.

Readback resolution refers to the minimum voltage and current readback inside the machine.

The precision of UTP3300 series  is 100mV，10mA; The precision of UTP3300-II series is 10mV，1mA.

The maximum power of  three channel of UTP3300-II series is 335W; The maximum power of single channel  of UTP3300TFL-II series is 150W.

Line regulation refers to the effect of the input voltage on the output voltage

Load regulation refers to the effect of load changes on the output voltage

PPM is the abbreviation for per million. It is used to describe temperature drift value of voltage reference. For voltage reference,  1ppm/℃ refers to the output voltage deviates from its nominal value by one millionth of a degree for every 1°C change in ambient temperature at a reference point (usually 25°C)

For example,  a voltafe reference has a nominal value 2.5V and TC is ±10ppm/°C,  when the ambient temperature changes by 1°C and 10°C for each change in the base of 25°C, its output voltage will become:

2.5V±10ppm/℃X1℃=2.5V±0.000025V

2.5V±10ppm/℃X10℃=2.5V±0.00025V

Resolution：For example, a ruler with a minimum scale of 1mm, namely, the size of the measurement of the smallest is 1mm and it can not measure the number smaller than 1mm. Thus 1mm is its minimum resolution.

Accuracy：If the value is 100mm and the measured value is 105mm, the radio of the difference is 0.05 (105-100)/100=0.05. Accuracy is the difference between the measurement result and the real value.

Precision: An object is known as 100mm nominal and was measured 5 times. The values are respectively 102,105,106,108,109. The difference between these data and the real 100mm are relatively small which indicating it has a good precision.

When testing smaller resistance, in order to avoid the influence of the wire's own internal resistance on the measurement results, the four-wire system is generally used to measure resistance. When the resistance is higher than about 1kΩ, it can ignore the wire's own resistance and use the two-wire method to measure resistance.

The settable range of amplitude is limited by the setting of impedance and frequency/period, and the amplitude displayed on the screen is either the  default value or the previous setting.

What is the relation of amplitude and frequency？

UTG2000B series output impedance is 50Ω, the maximum sine wave is 10Vpp。The voltage decreases as the frequency increases. As shown in the figure below (refer to the datasheet)

How does impedance affect amplitude?

The output impedance setting affects the amplitude and DC offset. The BNC connector of  the signal source [CH1/CH2] has a series output impedance of 50 Ω. If the actual load is different from the set value, the displayed voltage amplitude will not match the voltage amplitude of the part under test. To ensure the correct voltage amplitude, it should make sure the load impedance setting matches the actual load.

For example, if the Amp is set to 5Vpp, and the output impedance is changed from "50Ω" to "high resistance", the amplitude displayed on the screen will be doubled to "10Vpp". On the contrary, if users change the output impedance from "high resistance" to "50Ω", the Amp will drop by half to 2.5Vpp. Note that only the display will be changed after the parameter modification, the actual output of the generator will not be changed.

1. Enable the sync output of CH1 and CH2 on UTILITY setting.

2. Set the CH1 output to inverse, that is the output polarity of CH1 and CH2 will be opposite.

As for UNI-T signal sources of various series such as UTG900E, UTG2000A, UTG2000B, UTG4000A, UTG9000T, when the output impedance is 50Ω，the maximum sine wave Vpp=10Vpp. When  the output impedance is high resistance, the maximum sine wave Vpp=20Vpp.  Voltage decreases as frequency increases. Please refer to the product manual for details.

Through the arbitrary waveform editor in the signal source of host computer, user can edit the desired arbitrary waveform file. Then load it to the signal source arbitrary waveform path via USB flash drive to output the edited arbitrary waveform.

Arbitrary waveform files which exceed 16k or whose table header does not match the source type cannot be stored in the signal source. 

1、Capture the complete waveform of the signal and perform calculations：

Is it possible to choose an analog acquisition card with 250KS/s sampling rate to display the required waveform?  

Not really. We have not yet considered the measurement accuracy of 0.1%.

Because the analog signal is the continous and the signal period is 1/(22.5K)=44.4us，duty cycle accuracy requires to be 0.1%, .signal resolution should be at least 44.4us/1000=44.4ns，and sampling rate should be larger than 1/44.4ns=22.5MS/s,  then we can get the waveform that meet the accuracy requirements. In case the waveform can be measured to meet the accuracy requirement.

2、Convert the analog signal into a digital signal and  use pulse counting to calculate its duty cycle:

Convert a 60V analogue pulse signal into a digital pulse signal and use pulse counting to measure the duty cycle of this signal.

 If the digital signal is a 0 or 1, this sampling requirement is different from the analogue sampling requirement.

Why will happen if set output impedance to "high impedance" and then reverts to 50Ohm after a while?  

This may happen because the user have changed the voltage units when setting the voltage value parameter. When the user selects dbm, it only corresponds to a 50Ω output impedance.

GND at the power input, GND at the output BNC (marked), the  two  terminal must be conductive (generally less than 100mΩ).  The maximum 42Vpk to GND refers to the safety specification at the BNC of the output. The peak voltage allowed here is 42Vpk, otherwise it may be damaged.The product output will not have a voltage exceeding this limit, but if there is another signal flow backward to this output BNC, there is a possibility of exceeding this limit, and if the limit is exceeded, the machine will be damaged. For example, if a 50V signal is accidentally added to the BNC position of this output, the signal source may be damaged.

Frequency precision：The ratio of the output frequency and the setting frequency of the signal generator.

(output frequency - output frequency (Hz) x aging rate (ppm/year) x time since last calibration) / output frequency

Amplitude precision：The ratio of the output amplitude and the setting amplitude of the signal generator.

Flatness：The change in amplitude when switching from one frequency to another is called flatness. （1kHz is used as a typical value for comparison）

The smaller the change in amplitude from one frequency to another, the flatter the output.

The UNI-T instrument software corretly works only for Windows systems. There's no Mac or Linux software version for now.

In a sense, it's ture. Higher bandwidth means the ability to accurately measure signals at higher frequencies, which is good in some cases However, it really depends on the user scenario, higher bandwidth is not necessarily better. 

The measured signal is not periodic, it need to set the relevant parameter based on the basic characterstic of signal by manual regulation to acquire waveform.            

Parameters such as signal frequency or amplitude are too low. 

User may see a sine wave with the same frequency when testing a square wave. 

This  case does not necessarily represent  a failure of the oscilloscope. It may have been influenced by the high-frequency harmonic component of the composition of the square wave itself. 

To better understand this issue, it is need to study the effect of harmonics on square waves

For example, a 25MHz square wave will be treated as a 25MHz sine wave by the UTD2052CL. Although the square wave frequency is the upper limit of frequency bandwidth of oscilloscope, its harmonic components are already beyond the -3dB high frequency cutoff of the oscilloscope. Due to this natural cutoff, the main harmonic component of the square wave exceeds the second harmonic component (2 * 25 = 50 MHz). And it is naturally filtered out. The 3rd and 5th harmonic components are respectively 75 MHz and 125 MHz center frequencies. This is far more beyond the upper bandwidth limit of the oscilloscope.

In order to be able to view a square wave signal on an oscilloscope, the 3rd and 5th harmonic components of the square wave must not exceed the upper bandwidth limit of the oscilloscope.

When test a low frequency signal (below 100Hz), input channel coupling should set to be "DC", if it set as "AC", it may occurs signal distortion, then square wave may turn to triangle wave.

Why is the phase difference displayed incorrect when measuring two signals with a phase difference of 180° or other phase differences?

If user need to measure two signal's phase difference, trigger mode should set to "single trigger", then it can correct measure two channel's phase difference.

If the instrument has connected with upper computer, the instrument will turn into remote control mode, press Local key to exit this mode.

If the instrument is not connected with upper computer, insert incompatible U disk may cause system broken down and screen stucked. Reboot the instrument to fix it.

If the instrument is not connected with upper computer and not insert incompatible U disk, the instrument occurs keypad failure frequently, check the keypad lock function is normal, if it is, please contact with after sales department to send the instrument back to factory for check and maintenace.

Because there are multiple signalsthat meet the trigger conditions in one cycle, the oscilloscope triggers at different locations and the waveforms will overlap. By adjusting the trigger hold off to a slightly smaller value of the cycle, this problem can be improved.

The role of the oscilloscope trigger hold off : according to the user-defined hold off time to delay triggering. Mainly for a cycle of multiple signals that meet the trigger conditions, after seting the trigger hold off time, the first point to meet the conditions will not be triggered, it will be triggered after the hold off time to meet the trigger conditions. In this way, it can be fixed-point trigger according to the needs of users.

Analog oscilloscope is mainly made of battery lead plate, electronic gun and other analog circuit technology; digital oscilloscope is mainly made of A/D and other digital circuit technology.

Different bandwidth: affected by the electronic offset speed, the bandwidth of the analog oscilloscope can only reach several hundred hertz, while the digital oscilloscope bandwidth has exceeded 100 GHz  

Different function: digital oscilloscope can stable view continous periodic siganl and have automatic measurement, wave storage, wave analysis, multiple wave trigger, remote control and other functions.

Different stability: analog oscilloscope is made of analog components, indicators discrete and temperature excursion will have more serious impact; analog oscilloscope are relatively Larger in size; analog oscilloscope can capture real-time waveform, digital oscilloscope may cause segment wave loss when processing, but with the improvement of ADC speed and processing algorithm, the waveform capture rate has been able to meet the needs of use.

Ramp Time is refers to the time required for the voltage to be measured to increase slowly from 0V to the rated test voltage. In oscilloscope, it generally refers to the time to increase from 10% to 90%.

The better way is to select differential prob, it can measure the most accurate signal. 

If there are no differential prob, then user can use two single probe to connect with channel (CH1, CH2) of digital oscilloscope, processing mathematical operation to get CH1-CH2 waveform and analyse it. Keep the two probe and the vertical position of two channel are the same as can as possible, otherwise, the error will be large.

Like detect small signal of audio frequency amplifier,  noise wave of power supply.

① Matter of oscilloscope grounding : oscilloscope chassis and refernce ground wire of probe should  to be reliably grounded, good grounding is the primary condition for measuring interference.  

② Interference matter of introduced by the reference ground wire of the oscilloscope: since ordinary probes usually have a section of ground wire that will form an interference path similar to a loop antenna with the point to be measured, it may introducing relatively large interference. So it is important to minimize this interference. The method that can be used is to take off the probe cap and not use the ground lead on the probe, but directly use the probe tip and the location inside the probe to contact the point to be measured for measurement.

③ Use differential measurement way to eliminate common-mode noise.

The Fourier transform operation function can be used to analyze the frequency components of the measured signal. According to the frequency range, so as to determine the type of interference. Digital oscilloscope can only do qualitative measurements. If user want to do a comprehensive quantitative measurement of radiation interference, then it should select the spectrum analyzer.

Make sure the instrument pre-heat for at least 30min  and the temperature at 20-30℃. These are  the requirements for  instrument to remain stable and within specifications. 

The oscilloscope completes a trigger and it takes a period of time to resume work. This period of time is called trigger hold off.

In order to display a stable waveform on the oscilloscope screen, a condition needs to be set to make the oscilloscope start scanning, and this condition is the trigger.

1、Check whether the source channel of the trigger menu matches with the used actual signal channel.

2、Manually adjust the LEVEL trigger knob to observe whether the waveform is stable.

3、Use AUTO to adjust the waveform automatically and observe whether the waveform is stable.

4、Adjust the time base to eliminate false wave interference.

1, The closer the measured signal to the upper limit of the oscilloscope bandwidth, the greater the distortion.Generally speaking, oscilloscopes with bandwidth ≥ five times the signal bandwidth can be used to measure the signal with little distortion.

2, Improper selection of oscilloscope probe will lead to see the distortion of the waveform. First of all, the probe bandwidth should be greater than the signal bandwidth, preferably also ≥ 5 times the signal bandwidth; secondly, if the probe is divided into two gears, the bandwidth of the two gears are not the same, passive probe 1X gear bandwidth is usually lower, 10X gear is the maximum bandwidth written in the probe specifications.

UTD2000CEX can record up to 500 frames, UTD2000CL/CL+, UTD2000CEX+ can record up to 1000 frames, and the recordable time is related to the current horizontal time base. For example, if the current horizontal time base is 1ms, then the maximum recording time is 1ms*1000 frames=1000ms. If the time base gear is greater than 50ms/div, the recording function is invalid in ROLL mode.  

 The waveform recording memory size of the MSO/UPO3000E and MSO/UPO2000E  is fixed. the more points per frame, the less frames can be recorded, and the number of points per frame depends on the current "storage depth" of the instrument. Therefore, when the storage depth is set small, the number of frames that can be recorded will be large.

MSO/UPO3000E can record up to 100,000 frames, MSO/UPO2000E can record up to 80,000 frames.

For example:As for MSO/UPO2000E oscilloscope,when the storage depth is automatic and the time base is ≤50ns/div, the maximum of 80000 frames can be recorded ,the storage depth is 56Mpts, the number of points per frame is 56M, and a maximum of one frame can be recorded.

Auto trigger：the scan is triggered with or without input, thus the oscilloscope display waveform synchronizes with the signal.

Normal trigger：stay at the last trigger interface until the next trigger to scan.

Single trigger：once the trigger acquired the wave then it will enter STOP status.

Waveform capture rate refers to how frequent the oscilloscope acquires waveforms.An oscilloscope with a high waveform capture rate can significantly increase the probability of capturing transients such as jitter, burr, etc.

In order to display a stable waveform on the oscilloscope screen, a condition needs to be set to make the oscilloscope start scanning, and this condition is the trigger.

In order to capture the occasional pulse signal, use single trigger mode for single capture..  In order to prevent the interference signal from being captured, be sure to increase the trigger level appropriately, which can filter out the interference and facilitate the capture of the desired signal.

In the real case, the oscilloscope bandwidth generally refers to a combined bandwidth which is composed by the oscilloscope bandwidth and the probe, the bandwidth is only limited to 6MHz when the probe is in the 1x, if using 1x probe to measure higher than 6MHz  signal will have a great attenuation, the results are accuate  only when turn to the probe to 10X (bandwidth to reach the full bandwidth) . For high frequency signals, the system bandwidth combined of the oscilloscope and probe is less than the bandwidth of either scope of probe, so it is extremely important to choose the right probe for the measurement

±(3% × reading+0.05div) means  the error of the measured voltage value is allowed to be ±3%  the nominal value range multiplied by the error range of the current reading at +0.05 div. One sampling interval refers to the inverse value of the maximum sampling rate of the oscilloscope. For example: 1GS/s of a sampling interval is 1ns which is 1 divided by 1 to the ninth power

The RMS values will be different for different lengths of time on the waveform screen.

For two measured waveforms, if the waveform is shifted to the left or right, the measured result will  change and the RMS value will also change accordingly.

When observing the signal, the channel coupling setting is set in the menu under "CH1/CH2". The function of DC, AC and ground respectively is allow all signals to pass, isolate DC components for processing, processing ground effect. The coupling in the trigger setting is for the trigger system, the trigger coupling determines what component of the signal can transmitted to the trigger circuit, the test signal itself will not be processed. 

Take sine wave as an example: peak-to-peak value=2*peak value，peak-to-peak value=2*1.414*Vrms 

For example：220V AC RMS=220*2.82≈620Vpp

60Vpp=60/2.828≈21Vrms

28.28Vp=28.28/1.414=20Vrms

Real-time sampling：One acquisition captures the entire data of the waveform, real-time sampling is very useful for observing a single signal.

Real-time sampling is particularly suitable for signals with a frequency range of less than half the maximum sampling rate of the oscilloscope. (Sampling signal ≥ 2 times the signal under test)

Equivalent sampling：Equivalent time sampling constructs an image of a repeating signal by capturing a small part of information from each repetition. We may use a sampling frequency which less than twice the frequency of the original signal to perform undistorted sampling, which can also restore the original signal. This is also suitable for sampling and analysis of high frequent signal.

If the generator still remains blank screen when power on.

1) Check whether the power supply is connected properly.

2) Check whether the power switch on the rear panel is set to "I".

3) Check whether the power switch on the front panel is connected .

4) Restart the instrument.

5) If the instrument still can't work normally, please contact your UNI-T dealer or local offices for support.

Correct settings but no waveform output

1) Check whether the BNC cable is properly connected to the channel output.

2) Check whether the key CH1 or CH2 is turned on.

3) Save the current settings of the instrument to a USB flash drive and "restore factory settings",  then restart the instrument.

4) If the instrument still can't work normally, please contact your UNI-T dealer or local offices for support.

1) Check whether the USB flash drive device is working properly.

2) Make sure you are using Flash type USB flash drive device, this instrument does not support hard disk type USB flash drive device.

3) Restart the instrument and insert the USB flash drive again to see if it works properly.

4) If the USB flash drive still can not be recognized, please contact UNI-T dealer or local office and let us serve you.

(1) General Maintenance 

Do not store or put the instrument under direct sunlight for a long time, especially the LCD display panel. Caution:  Sprays, liquids or solvents are not allowed for the instrument or probe  to avoid damage to the instrument or the probe. 

(2) Cleaning 

Check the instrument and probe frequently according to the operating conditions. Fellow the steps to clean the surfaces of the instrument.

Please use a soft cloth to wipe dust on the surface of the instrument and probe. When cleaning the LCD panel, be careful not to scratch the transparent protective film. 

Power off the instrument first and wipe the instrument with a soft cloth.Use a mild detergent or water to clean if necessary.

Do not use any abrasive chemical cleaners as they may damage the instrument or the probe. 

Warning: Make sure the instrument is completely dry before rebooting. Moisture may cause electrical short-circuit or even personal injury!
